You Have Unlimited Potential

Colorful background image of the Orion nebula with the text "Don't restrict yourself to a little box, your potential is unlimited" written in white.

So often we tell ourselves what is and isn’t possible and we fail to realize that we have unlimited potential. We don’t have to confine ourselves into little boxes. We don’t have to accept that it can’t get better, that we can’t do more, that it will never happen.

I had a friend who used to always say, “The only way…” The only way this will happen is if… The only way it will work is if… We’ll call him Norman. Norman placed this kind of qualifier on almost everything he did or wanted. And, unsurprisingly, things often didn’t work out the way Norman wanted. Since, it was the “only way” they could have worked, he usually gave up and moved on.

One of his biggest dreams was to be wealthy. Norman was very good at coming up with creative business ideas. Very good. He always had lots of ideas. Some of those ideas were more feasible than others, but Norman always placed that qualifier on each and every one. Some of the ideas he would pursue, but once he ran into difficulties , he would give up on the idea. After all, he had tried the “only way” that it would work and since it didn’t, there was no point in going any further.

I don’t think that I have ever met a problem, a goal or anything that doesn’t have lots of options. Ever hear the saying “There is more than one way to skin a cat?” I’m not sure why anyone would want to skin a cat (they purr!), but the moral behind the saying is valid. There are multiple ways to achieve your objective.

Norm is an example of one kind of self sabotage. Me, I can usually see lots of possibilities for attaining what I want. But I self sabotage in another way. I have a tendency to not believe that I deserve whatever it is that I want. Logically, I know that this is ridiculous. I deserve it just as much as anyone else. But those illogical thoughts of mine still limit my potential.

This week’s motivational image is to help you, me and Norman step out of the restricting little boxes that we place ourselves in. There is no need for it. Our potential truly is unlimited. We can have, do or be anything that we want.

We might have to do some introspection to determine how we are limiting ourselves, and then work on conquering it. I’m still working on my feeling of unworthiness, but I can see the unlimited potential and I’m striving for it everyday. I hope that you do too. Because you deserve it. (And so do I.) And I want us both to achieve it.

Good Things Never Come From Comfort Zones

Strong woman climbing over a wooden wall with mountains in the background and the quote "good things never come from comfort zones."

Have you ever tried to go after something and then fell back into old habits? Before you know it, you are right back where you started and your goal feels like an impossible dream. There is a saying that can help you with that. Good things never come from comfort zones.

When we attempt something new or try to reach a new goal, those first few days of change are easy. Taking losing weight for example, although this applies to virtually anything new. At first the healthy food and daily exercise are new and exciting, and we are full of motivation to finally shed some inches. But that initial excitement fades, and suddenly it seems like a lot of work to prepare a healthy lunch and make it to the gym in the morning.

Why is that, when we still have the same overwhelming desire drop the pounds?

Its your brain. Your subconscious is sabotaging you. See, your subconscious doesn’t like change. When it doesn’t know what to expect, your subconscious assumes that your life is on the line. So it starts to throw up road blocks to steer you back to it’s comfort zone.

But the thing is, your subconscious’ comfort zone isn’t going to get you to where you want to go. If that were the case, you would already be there.

So, just like the woman in this weeks’ motivational image, you need to pull yourself up out of your established comfort zone. There is beauty on the other side waiting for you.

If you are anything like the rest of us, then you have made more than one effort at achieving your goal. And then slid right back into your comfortable habits. It is worth taking a few moments to reflect on what worked and what didn’t in those previous attempts. Expand on what worked and adjust what didn’t work until it does.

Consider trying to outsmart your frightened subconscious by taking a few small steps forward. Once they became a habit, take another step forward. This isn’t as exciting as throwing yourself wholeheartedly into a new direction, but it can be more effective.

Of course, the slow and steady approach comes with it’s own set of problems. The primary one is staying focused long enough to keep taking those steps forward.

Today Is A Good Day To Start

White Background with colorful text stating "today is a good day to start" with colorful flourishes

Fresh starts, there is nothing like them. They fill us with anticipation and bright shiny thoughts of what will be. It is odd though that we always want to plan that fresh start around something.

Monday will be the best day to start… Oh, I can’t start that now, it will be better to start on the first of the month… And, of course, there are all those New Years’ resolutions that just have to be made on the first of the year…

The truth though, is that today is a good day to start. When could possibly be better than right now? The conditions don’t have to be perfect to start. In fact, the conditions will never be perfect to start.

Today is a Good Day to Start printable

That is why it is so imperative that you start right now. Because you don’t need perfection, you just need to begin.

Your goal is achievable only if you begin, only if you actually start. Planning to start accomplishes nothing. And there will be plenty of imperfect moments on the journey to your goal. You’ll have to be able to get through them. Just like you have to get through this imperfect moment. And start.

If you need some more encouragement to start on that goal of yours, we are here to help. Untamed Phrase has designed a new motivational printable with the quote “Today is a Good Day to Start.” Available in our no-cost members area for you to download.

Get started printing and get started on your goals.
